IAN MAKSIN in MONTREAL
CELLO FOR PEACE TOUR
SEPTEMBER 17, 19:00h
LA TULIPE
4530 Av. Papineau
From Balkan rhythms to West African groves, and from Argentine milonga to music of Mongolian shamans, Maksin magically connects and brings together some of the most diverse elements of world music into a unique fusion, using his cello as the unifying force. Using loop pedal and other electronics, he augments the sound of his instrument into a virtual orchestra creating a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Singing in 30 languages from Arabic and Farsi to Polish and Ukrainian, and from French and Italian to Turkish and Mongolian, Maksin takes his listener on a most musical journey around the globe.
In this concert, Maksin will perform original music from his two most recent releases “The Alchemist” (2021) and “Sempre” (2019) as well as other new compositions that have not been recorded yet. He will also sing from his collection of songs around the globe including French, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, Yiddish, Hebrew, Arabic, Armenian, Farsi and others. And last but not the least, he will share his latest single “Rain Again” ("Знов Дощi”) which he dedicated to the people of Ukraine. Portion of the ticket and merch sales from this tour will be directed to benefit humanitarian relief in Ukraine.
“This war has deeply affected me,” Maksin said. It is my mission as a musician and as a human being to do everything possible on my part to support the people of Ukraine by raising humanitarian funds and sharing my music with those who need it the most during these dire times. I believe that music will help bring peace, first into our souls and then in the world around us.”
Maksin is donating a portion of the proceeds to For Wellbeing, a Chicago-based nonprofit that works directly with volunteers in Ukraine to create mobile medical units in areas where hospitals and clinics have been destroyed by war.
